District 9 looks fantastic, and the apartheid parallels are brilliantly done, but for me it does lose its way once it becomes a chase n guns movie. a few characters, like skeeter ailing mother (allison Loretta Young janney), are given a trajectory from racial obliviousness to semi-enlightenment, but for the most part, whites in this movie are either pure-of-heart crusaders or sneering bigots. on meeting up with the gatsby cast while in town, lautner said nothing was planned. i mean, i turned 60, and everything fell into place. i like making people happy, alaska said.
